About Us
The Albuquerque Area Indian Health Board, Inc. (AAIHB) is a non-profit organization that has been serving Native American communities in the Southwest since 1977. The AAIHB represents and advocates for the health needs of the 27 federally recognized tribes within the Albuquerque Area, which includes parts of New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, and Utah.
The organization provides a wide range of health-related services and programs designed to improve the overall health and well-being of Native American populations. These services include public health initiatives, disease prevention, health education, and access to medical care, with a special focus on culturally competent care that respects traditional values and healing practices.
AAIHB works in close collaboration with federal, state, and tribal health agencies, as well as with tribal communities themselves, to address critical health challenges such as diabetes, substance abuse, mental health, and maternal and child health. It also plays a vital role in advocacy efforts, ensuring that Native American voices are heard in policy discussions and health-related decision-making processes.
With a mission to empower Native American communities to achieve optimal health and well-being, the Albuquerque Area Indian Health Board is committed to providing quality healthcare services, promoting wellness, and preserving the cultural heritage of the tribes it serves.
The Albuquerque Area Indian Health Board, Inc. (AAIHB) acknowledges that our offices and the work we carry out exist on the traditional and ancestral lands of the Pueblo, Apache, Diné (Navajo), and other Indigenous peoples who have lived on and stewarded this land for generations.
We honor the deep historical connection between these lands and the Indigenous nations, whose cultural heritage and resilience continue to thrive today. We recognize the profound relationship between the health of Indigenous peoples and the land they have cared for, and we are committed to respecting, listening to, and partnering with the Indigenous communities whose wisdom and strength guide us in our work.
As we move forward in our mission to improve the health and well-being of Native American populations, we commit to upholding Indigenous sovereignty, health equity, and healing, while acknowledging the ongoing impact of colonization on Native lands and lives.
We give thanks to the Indigenous peoples of this region and offer our deepest respect for their enduring connection to this land.
